A New Addiction - Keropok Sira Madu

The colors itself was so inviting as I took my pack of Keropok Sira Madu from the Mobil Petrol Station. I was just there to purchase my usual addiction of the Keropok Ikan Segera as I came across this shining glory keropok placing side by side the fish keropok. Without any hesitation, I took the pack of keropok with my usual favourite and went over the payment counter.

"Oh, you are so clever;" claimed the aunty from the payment counter. "This keropok (Sira Madu) is really delicious, I have tried it before." added her. It was after my lunch that I could resist my temptation to open up the pack and try it.

"Voila!" The keropok is so crunchy and fragrant. Coated with honey over the fish keropok and sprinkled with sesame seeds, the first bite became my second and third piece. In 5 minutes time, I had the whole pack of Keropok Sira Madu inside my stomach.Made with fish, flour, vegetable oil, salt, sugar and pepper (as claimed by producer), the keropok has mild fish taste or spicyness as quoted inside the ingredients. Perhaps that was the reason it is much preferred compared to the Fish Keropok Segera by others.

I wouldnt mind having this keropok every day for my snacks +++ my Keropok Ikan Segera if its transfat free or cholestrol lowering. My family members have been complaining that I consumed too much of these tidbits till I have lost of all my nutritions needed. Nevertheless, life is short, I truly enjoy my food and appreciate those who are concern of me. Perhaps its not for daily consumption, but twice a week for my favourite keropok is still liveable!

Addiction to Keropok Ikan Segera

Practically I live with biscuits and chocolate everyday. Most of my friends and family members who know me well enough rarely see me eating the Malaysian staple food (Rice). Nevertheless, I still truly enjoy the Malaysian favourites of Nasi Lemak and Nasi Kandar occasionally, just without the rice! I always stunned my new friends and colleagues when I told them rice is a food I only feed on perhaps once in a month or less than 12 times per year! The next thought they had was, what did i eat then?

I am a fan of all the tidbits and biscuits. Not forgetting Chocolates. From local tidbits or junk food (as how the professionals refer them too) to International level tidbits, I just love them! I have been trying out many types of supermarket rack selling tidbits to our own Malaysian made keropok. I am proud to declare that I am a fanatic consumer of the Keropok Ikan Segera (also known as Keropok Lekor Keping by some).

There are a few varieties of Keropok Ikan Segera currently being sold at the Petronas, Caltex, Shell and Mobil (recently) Petrol Stations. Most of their packaging are almost alike (Transparent plastic pack with orange and black) as shown below:

Apparently this brand - Mak Wan Enterprise is the most popular. Personally, I find this brand less tasty. I have tasted earlier, not sure if it is the same brand or others, the taste is much fragrant and the diameter of the keropok is not too thick. From what I gather, it might be the fish which they used or the flour. Lately, most of the Keropok Ikan Segera I bought from the petrol stations are all under Mak Wan Enterprise and the ikan which she uses are Ikan Selayang. There was once my colleague went to Trengganu and she bought a pack of this keropok for me, the taste was different as the fishes which were used to processed it differs.

Keropok Ikan Segera taste totally different from the Chinese local fish keropok. I am not so sure of the ingredients for both parties but I suppose the whole process is different which makes the outcome a total new product. For those who love fish keropok, I would recomend you to take a bite to it. Anyone favouring the fresh version of fish keropok, try the Keropok Lekor from the Malay stalls along the pasar malam. Its another version of fish keropok which taste great with chili sauce.

A pack of Keropok Ikan Segera usually range from around RM1.70 - RM1.80 in Penang petrol stations. The price in KL is slightly expensive by around RM2.00. Last 2 weeks, I was down at Gerik town and to my delight, I found my favourite keropok at only RM1.30 per pack. So thrilled with my discovery, I ended buying 10 packs home and also other tidbits and instant noodles. Psst...psst...some things are really cheap at the Gerik town. Check out Gerik and also Pulau Banding Resort, a nature getaway!

Back to my Keropok, anyone who knows the place to obtain the best keropok ikan segera/keropok keping or keropok lekor, do share yea.....
